What happened, we are in June almost and no update for almost 3 months. Are you alright?
ReplyDeleteThis has been the definitive hosts file source for me for over a decade and thank you so much for providing this awesome resource. You've done a lot of good for a lot of people and probably saved people from a lot of malware. I hope you're ok!
ReplyDeleteI read you are ill. We hope you are on the mend.
ReplyDeleteFew days ago I intended to make a donation but that did not work with Paypal. Maybe I will still manage it...
Thank you for all the support during the last years!! And
get well soon!
Last update was March 2021. What's going on? Have you died? Will someone else take over? It's almost the end of the year. *sigh*
ReplyDeleteIt's 2022 now and i ask myself the same questions that the other commenters did. Where are you? Are you still alive? I sure hope so!

ReplyDeleteHello!
ReplyDeleteI just realized that i hadnt seen an email from MVP. Hope all is good with you.
I am really sad that this hasn't been updated, and really hope you are just so busy recovering that you are unable to post here. Hope all of you out there are doing well, and please stay alive. If you want a hosts file that is still being updated, here: https://someonewhocares.org/hosts/
ReplyDelete:)
I'm a long time user of this resource. I'm also recently retired. Could you use some help (aside from donations)?
ReplyDeleteI have a theory as to why they stopped the update(because I also always used): Maybe many may not believe it, but there are corporations and powerful (and evil) people where the HOSTS file was possibly an impediment to their plans. Conspiracy theory? Oh, as well as many others that were believed to be mere conspiracy theories but are being seen as true.
ReplyDeleteIf that were in any way remotely true then all the sites offering hosts files in one form or another would have been taken down. So yes, a conspiracy theory with one adherent - you.
DeleteOccam's Razor applies here. The simplest explanation is usually the best one, and unfortunately, the simplest explanation is that the author passed away.
Oh yes, you're right, Sorry for my mistake, there were 2 big mistakes of mine because english is not my native language: I didn't read the author's comment on the main page, as well (because I'm a layman in the knowledge of sites that provide files hosts) I thought it would be difficult for others to make hosts files, but by searching better I found. Sorry.
DeleteDoes anyone know of any other sites that provide such a good hosts file?

DeleteProbably the closest to the MVPS Hosts
This one I've seen, it's not bad, but it has 10.700 lines against 120.000 lines from StevenBlack's HOSTS file.
DeleteThe MVPS file had around 10,000 lines usually and was considered the best. It depends what you want from your Hosts file. If you think that you will visit everysite on the internet and want protection from ads or maybe tech or pharma scams then a large Hosts is probably the way to go. If you want a Hosts that is going to do a pretty good job for general browsing for 99% of people, something similar to MVPS is good.
DeleteBut isn't better one that already does all the work for 100% of people than other that's only "good" for 99% people? For example, when using a simple application on Android with MVPS, I always had to edit it, including common advertisements that it didn't block, while with StevenBlack's I didn't even have to work.
DeleteWell it looks like you have found the perfect Hosts file for you so i do not understand why you ask on the MVPS site for other sites that provide such a good Hosts file which anyone would take as meaning a similar file to the MVPS Hosts. StevenBlack's file cannot be compared with MVPS and MVPS was never really meant for anything other than a Windows computer
DeleteNo .. as the MVPS maintainer is no longer updating the file because of health problems (if he is still with us), someone asked about some other site that provides Hosts file, so I informed about StevenBlack's HOSTS file. But in that, did someone mention a third, https://someonewhocares.org/hosts/zero/ . So I just threw in the comparison question.
DeleteSorry for all the confusion ... I fell and broke both arms ... couldn't type so no updates ... still on the mend ... will provide a update soon ... thanks everyone for the concern ...
DeleteHey, you're alive ! :D. What excellent news ! God bless you !
DeleteDonated. Please keep updating :-)
ReplyDeleteSad to hear of health. Just spent 2 years on chemo myself. I hope they are sorting or have sorted your issues. This has been an exceptionally valuable resource over the years so a thanks from me and get well soon!
ReplyDeleteMerry Christmas, Mike. I hope this finds you fully recovered and in good spirits. To assist you in that, PayPal'd you a Benjie. Buy a great bottle of Jack or Johnnie and have some Christmas cheer. Love ya'!
ReplyDeleteHi Michael, Great work on the Host file config. Very useful in my many systems. I've PayPal'd you a little sometime for the use of your work. I'm hoping all works out with your health maladies and you can get back to enjoying life. All the best, Ken.
